CatholicCare Sandhurst is horrified and saddened by the events in Christchurch, New Zealand, on Friday 15 March 2019.  Such violent and devastating acts destroy the lives of innocent people and deeply harm the social bonds of the community.

As a provider of family and social support services to people of all faiths, cultures and none, we abhor this senseless crime perpetrated against the Muslim community in Christchurch, which will scar families and communities for generations.

On behalf of the Board and staff of CatholicCare Sandhurst, we offer sincere sympathy to all those whose relatives and friends lost their lives in this hateful attack.

We extend our sorrow, support and sincere sympathy to our Muslim partners and communities. With us, they are the children of God, and our brothers and sisters. We acknowledge the grief and trauma they are experiencing, which is reverberating across the broader community and our staff. We entrust those who have died to the love and care of God; and that all survivors and victims in critical condition may recover speedily and rejoin their families.

May those who are traumatised by this hateful attack find healing and peace, and may we also be bearers of peace and transformation to all those in distress.

CatholicCare Sandhurst (CCS) is a not-for-profit organisation, providing counselling services, school chaplaincy services and programs to individuals, couples, families and groups across the Victorian Loddon Mallee and Goulburn Murray regions. We are the official welfare agency of the Catholic Church in the Diocese of Sandhurst.

At CCS we deliver high quality family and relationship services that are available for all people. We acknowledge that people come to us with a wide range of faiths, cultures and personal beliefs. Hopefully everyone feels welcomed.

We are a participating agency of CatholicCare Victoria Tasmania (CCVT) and a member of Catholic Social Services Victoria (CSSV) and Catholic Social Services Australia (CSSA).

CCS is working hard to ensure that we have a safe and nurturing place for workers and for clients alike. We have been finding ways to share the responsibility for making our organisation a good place to work. Sanctuary has been selected as the preferred model for CCS as it is an internationally recognised organisational change model that incorporates healing for all aspects of the service including the organisation itself, our staff and clients, and the children we see. The primary goal of creating this culture change is to promote safety for all of the people who are part of our community.
